One of our first customers, and now an integral part of the Ketolibriyum team, Kelly shares her story of starting keto and how it changed her life.
Success Story: A Keto Athlete
I can’t start this post claiming I’ve lost hundreds of pounds. I can’t even claim to of lost tens of pounds. Actually.. I gained on Keto, and what I gained was much more than I could’ve ever imagined. Keto helped me to gain. I gained self-confidence, self-respect, and self-love. Hello everyone, my name is Kelly and I’m a (now) proud keto athlete. For nine years I have worked my butt off in the gym and on the roads and trails with drive and ambition motivating me to optimize my fitness goals.
I tried every diet imaginable and my results would immediately flip the second I didn’t follow them perfectly. I spent thousands of dollars on personal trainers, diets, meal plans etc. etc. etc. all these diets that deprived me landed me with an extreme eating disorder. I became a compulsive overeater, eating everything I wasn’t “allowed” to eat behind closed doors. This prevented me from ever reaching my fitness goals.
One day, as I was taking a bite out of a chocolate chip muffin, a fellow runner (who was keto) asked me a question that would change my life. She asked “how do you fuel for a run?”. I was immediately intrigued by her alternative way of eating and started the research that day. That was two years ago in March. Shortly after that conversation, I found a woman at Western Farmer’s market with one cooler selling keto food, cheesecakes and cookies! That woman was Gloria the founder of Ketolibriyum. I was one of her first customers, and I’m still one today.
Of course, there has been a lot of trial and error, but my relationship with food has completely changed. I am no longer deprived, I actually feel like every meal is a cheat meal. More importantly, I was finally seeing results and keeping them on! My energy went through the roof. I ran my first marathon fat adapted and fuelled by only 3 tablespoons of healthy fats. As all the runners were refuelling on sugary jellos (because their carbs ran out the night before) I kicked into high gear and ran faster past them.
I’ve trained my body to use fat as fuel, so once the fat runs out that I feed myself, my body is able to use stored fat (luckily as a woman I have fat stores that will never run out.) Keto has changed my life in so many ways. I sleep better - I am as regular as the sun rises. I feel better - I don’t remember the last time I was ill. My mood has dramatically improved. I am never hangry. And I no longer step on the scale. Those numbers no longer define me. NSVs !!! (Non-scale victory’s). I go with how I feel.
