Is keto right for you?

We get this question ALL the time. In our keto 101 seminars, over email, phone calls... If you haven't started keto but are contemplating is, how do you know if it's right for you?

Deciding whether the ketogenic diet, or keto, is right for you requires careful consideration of several factors. Here are some key points to consider when determining if keto is a suitable dietary approach for you:

  1. Health Goals: Evaluate your specific health and wellness objectives. Keto is often chosen for weight loss, improved metabolic health, increased mental focus, or managing certain medical conditions like epilepsy or type 2 diabetes. Understanding your goals can help determine if keto aligns with your needs.

  2. Medical Conditions: Consult with a healthcare professional, such as a doctor or registered dietitian, especially if you have any underlying medical conditions. Certain conditions, such as pancreatitis, liver disease, or rare metabolic disorders, may not be compatible with a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet like keto.

  3. Lifestyle Factors: Evaluate whether your lifestyle allows for the necessary adjustments. Keto often requires careful meal planning, tracking macronutrients, and reading food labels to ensure you're staying within the prescribed carbohydrate limits. Assess your ability to commit to these changes or find a service that can help you achieve your goals.

  4. Your always hungry: If you're constantly craving sugar, or find yourself snacking constantly, this may be a sign your body isn't getting the right nutrients it needs. A ketogenic diet (or low-carb high-fat diet) might be what you need to shift your eating habits.

  5. You are insulin resistant: If you know your body has issues with insulin, a ketogenic diet may be beneficial. The ketogenic diet significantly restricts carbohydrate intake, typically to less than 50 grams per day. By reducing carbohydrate consumption, blood sugar levels and insulin production are minimized, leading to improved insulin sensitivity over time.

Ultimately, as long as you don't have any series health issues that could impact you, the only way to find out if keto works for you is to try. If you're still not sure if keto is right for you, book a free consult with our nutritionist!
